If you’re ever in Auckland, NZ with a kid, one thing you shouldn’t miss out on is Snow Planet. We love this place. We took the snow play package thinking our 2 toddlers (both aged 3 years old) would only spend a few minutes in the snow. Coming from a tropical country, that was a pretty safe assumption. So it was really a big surprise to us that we spent 4 hours there.
It’s really the best to go on a hot summer night but you need to check the schedule. They’re usually open 365 days a year (incuding Chritsmas). But if you’re going to go there with kids, it’s best to check if they have the snow play packages available — this is usually not the case on weekends. Eitherway, they’ll love the experience. Just make sure they are really dressed well and have the proper snow gear. If you don’t have waterproof winter gear, you can actually rent some at cheap prices. I think it’s $9 for the gloves and $11 for the snow suit for kids. You need to have your own socks and beanies for hygeine purposes.
It’s also ideal to take a break between your snow time when you’re with small children, just so they can have a few minutes of warmth. Don’t worry, the dining area is lovely and the food and drink prices are pretty affordable. The service size of the dishes were also big, so worth what you pay for. We loved how they continued the ski resort theme at the dining area with a fireplace to keep you warm and even old ski lifts as dining chairs.
It’s a great place for first-time snowboarders and skiers to learn how to use the equipment and how to navigate the slope. The area is pretty well maintain and the snow also seems fresh and clean. This is really good, since there was a party of over a hundred people when we visited. Kids can enjoy being dragged around in the tobogan or go down the slope that isn’t too steep.
It was such a fun experience that the kids are demanding that we go back again very soon. Us adults are just as excited for a second visit!
